I am so confused????Lighting and uvb rays....

When I went to get my RES yesterday I had to also get his UVB bulb. Well what the woman gave me and told me was ok for my RES is apparently the wrong thing. I bought a 15w Sun Glo daylight lamp. And everyone is basically telling me i screwed up and need to take it back. But they are in Fl. So know I am stuck with not being able to get him one till next friday at the earliest. And I don’t want to cause harm to my little guy. So I am left wondring what to do with no help. It is not to terribly cold out yet 66 derees today. So i was wondering can I just take him outside for a little while to get his UVB rays and if so for how long at a strech. Ilove this little guy somuch and i want to see no hurt come to him.....Please help...

Also does anyone know a place online where I can get hima bulb(ones that scre inm like a regular bulb like design) and at a resonable price. Thanks somuch..

A ReptiSun 5.0 light UVB light STRIP is the absolute best UVB light out there besides this iguana light that uses NMercury or something, but they are like $40.00.
A Reptisun 5.0 18" is about $12.00-$15.00.
But the price increases as the size of the light you buy increases.

bigalsonline.com also has good deals on stuff. the cheapest uvb bulbs are the strip bulbs but they still aren’t cheap. you can buy them online cheaper than in stores but once you pay shipping nine times out of ten it isn’t much cheaper. i’m using a mercury vapor bulb, the best one on the market and it cost me $36 plus shipping and handling. but they are great. they provide both uvb and uva plus i don’t have to use a heat lamp cuz they produce the heat. they last a lot longer than a strip light does too. i bought mine at bigappleherp.com they sell all sorts of lighting their check them out too. and by the way your turtle will not die if it doesn’t have uvb light for a week. just make sure it can get out of the water and bask in a light.

You could buy online but he should do just fine as long as it is only a temporary situation.

Yea, but 8.0 is more for arid reptile use, it’s like a desert light, actually, I think it’s called Desert Glo, my friend used it for his beardies, but then he heards about ReptiSun, and now he uses ReptiSun 5.0.

I would say that 5.0 should be considered minimum for turtles. You can feel free to use more though ... especially if you are ever concerned about the shell getting soft ... most of my hatchlings are on 10.0’s.
