Question bout my RES’s sex... 
Ok, so the turtle I bought is supposed to be a guy. It has long claws like males do, but my little brothers turtle is supposed to be a guy too. Well, they hump each other. So I’m not sure which one is the girl or if they are just gay. I’m actually not sure if they just lay on each other but they seem pretty damn intimate. My LB’s turtle is smaller and shyer, and my turtle is more outgoing and it’s bigger. Any help?

How old are they? From everything I have read its pretty next to impossible to sex them before 2 1/2-3 yrs. old. If you could get a picture of each turtle and their claws we may be able to help a little.As for them laying on each other I would not be to worried turtles like to do that. I hear about it all the time. As long as no one gets aggressive it should be ok. I think I cover everything. If you have any questions post em we’ll try to help.

Well, see today we were watching them and noticed that Raphael (mine) was snapping at the other one, which had us kind of concerned. They have thirteen circles on their shell, so they’re both about a year. I’ll try to post some pics, thanks alot.

From what i’ve been told you cannot sex a RES until it’s shell is at least 4". which means if you got your RES legally you should be able to get a pretty good idea of its sex. i on the other hand have quite a wait until i find out. my four were less than two weeks old when i got them.

Actually, rings don’t correlate with age but rather with periods of growth. :) You can’t really know the age of a turtle accurately unless you know when they hatch.When do you notice that they are mating? In the water or out of the water? Out of the water they are just basking ...
