I think they should have 10 inches of water to every inch of shell they have! So if they are about the size of a quarter right now, a 10 gallon tank will be ok for now, but they won’t be able to stay in it for very long. Little ones grow fast. I got mine when she was the size of a quarter now it is like she is stuck at about 5 inches.

If they have plenty of room to bask and swim a couple of weeks will be ok, but I would get something bigger as soon as you can. I don’t know if that is true about them growing only to their habitat though. I think they grow no matter what. I will have to go look about that, but I am pretty sure they don’t.

the whole idea of only growing to the size of their habitat, is a bunch of bull**** from the very nice person who sold you the turtles. I hate to disappoint you but that tiny turtle, no matter what, is going to be the size of a dinner plate, at least, in the end. when i got mine and they told me the very same thing, sounded good at the time. however now i know i have much more to plan for. i have four almost 4 month old RES babies. i will post my pictures as soon as i can, i just took them today with my sisters camera and she is giving me a cd with them on it. the ten gallon tank for the two of them is okay for right now, but it isn’t going to last very long. the big concern right now is that you have a place to bask, with a uvb light too and that they have enough water that they can turn themselves over incase they get on their backs.
