R.E.S You should turn it off at night. I would say give them any where from 10 to 14 hours of light, then shut them off. You can buy one of them blue or red light, to mimic the moon that should keep them warm until morning. You could also get an undertank heater for them if you have a problem keeping the water warm during the night as I do. But you should turn the lights off so their sleep isn’t interupted, though mine like to sleep while they are basking and rarely sleep at night. They will be basking and I shut the lights off at night and they get in the water. They’re weird! Hope this helps ya!

R.E.S TeriS4 watch that yours aren’t sleeping too much in the afternoon, sleeping a lot tends to be a sign of illness. its weird that they don’t sleep at night too, maybe elfomatic will have some other advice about this

R.E.S Mine looks ready for bed when we turn his light out at night. Its funny he goes to sleep quicker then my kids do. But the cutest thing is that he has figured out that I am the one that feeds him so when i go near the tank he looks at me like "Hey wheres the food at?" Its too cute..

R.E.S Well they seem ok they don’t really sleep a lot, they just sleep at odd hours. But I don’t know. I have no worries for them, because they eat all the time, nothing is wrong with them that I know of. But if elfomatic has something to say about it, then I will listen! But honestly I think they are just weird. But I don’t know.

R.E.S Rbel RES’s and probably a lot of aquatic turtles are famous for that begging. in fact my turtles know that the color yellow means food (reptomin container has a yellow lid). so they will follow the yellow lid back and forth across the tank. they also enjoy a yellow ping-pong ball to play with in the water.

R.E.S that reminds me. My three yr old has a obession with leaves and little plants. And just the other day he had a clover(i think) and was standing in front of the tank and moving the clover around. And Helmet followed it the whole trying to figure out how to get it through the glass. Which brings up a question can he eats things like that from the yard.

R.E.S Hmm ... it would probably be best to feed your turtle aquatic plants rather than stuff from the yard simply because they wouldn’t eat it in the wild. Plus, you don’t know if somebody has sprayed pesticides ... what dogs have been using your yard for a bathroom, etc .... It’s a good idea but there are just sooo many plants out there and you’d have to look them all up individually ... As to the whole sleeping at night vs. day thing ... well, at night my turtles sleep in the water and I’ve found that to be pretty much standard from everything I’ve heard. It usually takes them a good half hour to settle down ... especially if they can still see light somewhere .. but if I ever have to go in the rooms with turtles in them for whatever reason after dark they are all settled down.

R.E.S I really don’t know what they do at night, I rarely get up during the night. But when I do get up they are swimming around or at the bottom, maybe they hear me, I don’t know. They probably sleep during the night, I would say. Just every time I turn there lights off they start swimming around, it is probably because they think they are going to get fed, but I don’t know. I just know that I am almost 100% sure they are ok. When I turn their lights on in the morning they are on their rock, but they are not there for very long, they jump off and attack the side of the tank, wanting to be fed. So I think they are ok. Thanks for caring though :)

R.E.S We aren’t saying that anything is wrong, just simply saying that it’s one more of those thingsfor everyone to watch out for. Most people probably have no idea what goes on in their turtle tank at night, just assume sleeping. I tend to be a night owl so I spy on my babies a lot after the lights are out.
