A 60 watt heat bulb will not keep the water warm enough for them, unless hes in a bucket. IT needs to be 70-75.. Try using turtle pellets from local petstore or walmart.. and try krill for a treat. The turtle should be in at least a 55 gallon tank, minimum... no matter the size because they’ll grow fast and need it anyways.. and should have a really good filter.

RES’s will eat all sorts of things. Mine love guppies and mealworms. They like romaine lettuce, carrots shavings, apple and strawberries. And mine are just babies only about 3 and a half months old.

Mine is kept in a 10 gal. tank at the moment and will be upgraded when needed. We use a 100w household bulb for a basking light and it warms the tank up fine. The turtle food we use is Reptomin turle food (like about 4 bucks at wal-mart) He also likes bloodworms (also from wal-mart 3 bucks) and he likes to eat the fish food when we feed the fish( we have 3 in his tank. for him to eat when he is older). He also likes small cut up pieces of apples, fish, okra, little insects, small pieces of lean ground beef(raw) And he is still a young baby. Try some of these to feed your turtle if money his tight or for treats.

ground beef is not good even as a treat it has way to much fat in it. try cooked chicken instead. they can eat fish even at a small age if you can get feeder guppies which are very small, they cost me about 10 cents a piece but they breed so readily that you can buy 10 and in a week you have 20. poisonous plants good stuff

Well keep trying things, especially the veggies and such. It is normal for most young RES to want meat and not veggies and fruits. But one of mine loves that stuff. I will say though the first most important thing is to make sure that they are eating a turtle food, like reptomin or mazuri. don’t let them get away with living on treats like apple and shrimp or krill. a varied diet is good but a turtle pellet makes it complete.
