It’s illegal to sell all turtles under 4 inches in all states except Florida, where it is illegal to sell any size Red Eared Slider. But the only way you can sell under 4 inches is for research or educational purposes, but people still sell them around where I live because i have 2 1 and a quarter inch Red Eared Sliders.

I think that "educational and research purposes only" thing about under four inches only applies to retail turtle selling. It’s pretty easy to get hatchlings and anything else under four inches from breeders. They sell them all the time. I got my snapper from a breeder as a hatchling. Correct me if I’m wrong about this because I’m not really sure. It just seems like it only applies to them.

It is illegal to sell red-eared sliders under 4 inches in carapace length in the state of Texas. But pet stores, breeders, and the like have ways of getting around the law. They sell these little blue "turtle lagoons"(often for a ridiculously high price) and the turtle comes "free". The little baby turtles are cute and make pretty good pets if you know what you’re doing. The lagoons should be spat upon and thrown away.

how do you get them to eat?

Try reptomin turtle pellets.(or if real small reptomin baby) You can also purchase grass shrimp, feeder minnows and aquatic plants theyll eat, like anacharis from most fish stores. Wild ones will also usually eat earthworms, mealworms and crickets, but they have to eat in the water to swollow their food easily.

Rescued from sewer, either their populating there or someone dumped a pet.

In Florida while their illegal, tourist shops still have a bunch
