Do my Red Eared Slider’s need this?

By the way for those who don’t know i have 2 baby Red Eared Sliders now, and both are doing great. My tank stays from 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit, and I am pretty sure that they don’t need a water heater, but do I? Also some websites you need an airater to keep the turtles from getting diseases, but I have never heard or seen that on this website, do I need one?

An aerator is one of many ways to reduce harmful water bacteria. Most people just use filters and partial water changes. If your turtle has a warm basking area and is eating okay, then the water temperature is fine. If you want to be extra safe, get one and set it for like 75 or 76. It’ll be off most of the time anyway, but if the room gets a little cool then it’ll come in handy. Probably not necessary in June, but I’d get one when maybe September or so rolls around.

what would an airator do? wouldn’t it just put more O2 in the water so the bacteria can grow better with the oxygen? or do they grow with more Co2 levels?

The bacteria that use oxygen are the same ones that filter sponges are built to help grow. They feed on the ammonia wastes, cleaning the water. The harmful bacteria are anaerobic, thriving in a carbon-dioxide-rich environment. The inside of a turtle’s gut isn’t exactly rich in oxygen, so bacteria that require "fresh air" aren’t much of a threat in there.
