My eastern box turtle

my eastern box turtle named turtlebites, and what he does all day.

first for a daily 5 hour soaking in the water bowl. under the uvb lamp.

still soaking...

next turtlebites scans part of the terrarium for something...

something...like a bed of green moss.and sleeps in it.

then turtlebites wakes up and goes on his log to bask...

then turtlebites senses somthing amis...like crickets!
and spots a few.
then charges after them.

and eats them all....

then the whole cycle starts all over again....

i love boxies.just stick around your new one alot and hold it alot and it will get used to you and trust you. then you can start hand feeding.
i had so much trust in one boxie that she would always follow me around,hand feed, kind of mini rock climb with me,i taught her to stay on a wooden platform in the pond if she ever got stuck somewhere in the open water and to not try to swim to shore(that was a hard one that took a few years),hunt with me, and when i picked her up she would guide me around with her front and back legs. kicking meant straight,left swing of arm means go left, right swing means go right, backing up in my hand means to back up.i swear this is real because when she made me go where she wanted she would like search the area. i was just starting to teach her to climb slanted trees.... when a dog ate her.
i have some old pics of her but not that many. and she was still a juvenile. imagine what she would have accomplished if she grew up....really smart turtle.

looks good. id get your boxie a bigger enclosure if i was you. seems to large to be in something so crowded. looks nice and healthy tho.

i cant get my boxie to eat anything but turtles sticks soaked in water and worms.

iv tried so many things its not funny. she wont touch it. i even tried not feeding her anything but that. she went 2 weeks before i gave in and fed her sticks and worms.. shes crazy. id rather eat berries then worms any day. i have not given up trying tho. someone told me when shes older she may try new things so i just keep offering it to her.

less then a year, shes like palm size. not sure if im going to try pinkies or fuzzies just yet. iv never even herd of feeding box turtles rodents.

my boxie loves fuzzies, especially live ones. i tried it a few weeks ago.he went faster to the mouse than he does with grubs!i’m pretty sure it’s completely normal for a juvinile box turtle to be carnivorous.after probably 3 years they will try tomatoes,lettuce,carrots,and lots of berries.i’ve never had a juvinile box turtle under 3 eat greens or any vegetation.just meat and turtle sticks.
