If you own a turtle please read and reply!

Hello, my name is Ryan and I have been on this forum for years. I have aroung 5 years of experience with tutles but...

I know I am not the only one who struggles with RESPONSIBILITY. Sometime I will forget to clean the tank, you know that kind of stuff. Sometimes, I will forget to feed my turtles. Sometimes I will forget to do this that, that and this! I just want to know some poniters on how to become a better parent for my turtles. I love them to death, and yet sometimes neglect them of proper care. How can I become more responsible with them? I really want to become a better turtle parent. thanks a lot!

-Ryan

The turtles are in my room, and are in fact the first thing I see when wake up. I will try the sticky notes, and will try my hardest to become more responsible with my tutles.

i have a feeding schedule for all my reptiles. i have them allover the place so there is no forgetting for me. if you keep to your schedule it becomes routine. no reason to forget.

Even if you do forget or put it off a day or so doesnt make you a bad turtle owner. there is a difference between putting something off a few days and being neglectful.

im 8 1/2 months pregnant so i know how it is to NOT want to clean a huge turtle tub. iv put it off a time or two.

feedings are easy. i dont ever put that off. it really takes not time or effort to open the turtle food container or drop some green in their tub. Not to mention my turtle WONT let me forget. they are splashing all over the min they see me up..lol

i made my own. i just have certain days i feed my adult turtles (every 3 days the same days a week) and my babies eat every day.

my snakes eat the same day every week and so on.

you dont really get a schedule from anyplace. its what days you set for yourself and your turtles. mark the days on a calendar if it helps you out. i have a lot of pets from (turtles, torts, snakes, dogs, crabs, and cats) that are all on schedules. a lot of them need to eat everyday so that’s not something that’s hard to remember. you just need to think of something that helps you remember so you can be a better pet owner.

some people suggested sticky notes. try that to help you remember if you cant do it on your own.

It isnt really so much that I forget, it is that i don’t have a schedule of when to feed my turtles. I have one adult RES, and two baby RES. I am going to start a schedule like you told me to, and for my adult he will eat once every two days, and my babie will eat once a day. Does this sound good?

my adults eat every 3 days. i just toss a hand full in, they are pigs. my babies eat everyday .i have like 8 babies so i just do the same and toss in a hand full of sticks. whatever isn’t eaten is removed to help with the waste.

adults only need to eat like 2 times a week so pick 2 days that are good for you and stick to them days.

Okay, I am thinking that I will feed every other day. So on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, and then start over again. I know I will end up feed him two days in a row, but who cares! Thaks or all of the help. I am also thinking about even making pre portioned food baggise, for each day.Is that a good idea? And also, what aregood ways to give my turtle vitamins and prtein? What supllements shold I be providing?

Repcall Calcium VitaminD3 Sup. is all you need for a normal diet.
If your turtles are sick with some certain things , there are other vitamins and drops you can get them then

Okay well, then I guess he is fine. I was also thinking about annual vet check ups. How often should I take him? Should I even take him? Where can i find a good vet just for checkups? I live in san jose CA, so ya. I was also wondering how can I enhance my turtles colors? They are slowly fading, how can I make them look new?

most turtles colors will fade with age so not much you can really do with that. as far as vet checks i only take new ones in to the vet unless one gets ill. haven’t had to do that thankfully.
