 Need info

One of my friends just got a hatchling RES. He has went on and above doing research before getting him His set up is great temps are good. He just sent me an email and I am thinking it might be RI just wanted to see if any of you ever had this happen. He Wrote:


she is doing the open mouth thing, and making a wierd noise! she is moving in and out and it sounds like if you place your tongue to the roof of your mouth push saliva through it....do you know i am trying to get at, like breathing with a gurgle
kind of like a sqeak with liquids
she is moving in and out of her shell,

Good temperatures don’t render them completely immune to respiratory infections; they just make it less likely. It can still happen though. I know a lot of people who caught flu this summer. Same thing.
Could also be inhaled water. It sounds like some kind of lung fluid, one way or the other.

I agree totally..... Didn’t even think about inhaled water will pass that on to him and have him keep an eye out on him. Also going to get him on RZ just in case he needs any more info ...... Also if it doesn’t seem to go away or get worst take him to a vet ... Don’t know really how much they can do for just a hatchling ......

if its RI just up the temps it should help. not sure about inhaled water tho. last turtle i had that did that didn’t make it thru the night but she was very ill and stressed anyways.

I had a turtle that did the excact same thing and, sadly he died. Mine basked nonstop any I tried to feed him, but he only ate half a stick and coughed it up. Right now I have 2 and they are both perfectly healthy! Hope it lives!

Update : He took him to his vet and it was RI so he has to inject antibiotics for the next few day ....
