 Aquatic turtles or land turtles?

I’m thinking of getting a turtle but I don’t know which is easier and cheaper to care for. Aquatic turtles or land turtles such as box turtles.

land turtles have lower maitnence than water turtles but would need a larger enclosure.

both will cost you a lot to get set up properly. i love both type but torts are easier in my opinion. less maintenance.

Like Turtlebites said both will probably cost around the same in the end, but land turtles are easier to take care of. But in my opinion water turtles are more fun to watch. Land turtles enclosure only need to be about once a month, where water turtles need to be cleaned every few days without a filter, every few weeks with a filter.

box turtles are cute. my favs are my sulcatas, but they do get very large and will need a lot of room when they are older. ill have my hands full with 3 of them. they wouldnt make good pets for most people tho.

boxies stay a lot smaller and dont live as long. Russian torts are very cute also. id like one. or a red foot!

lol i just love torts, so much fun. i HATE cleaning my aquatic turtle tubs. pain in the butt!

I wish I had enought money to get a bigger tank. Does anyone think $120 is a good price for a 50 long tank with a hood that covers half the top and it come with 1 striplight. This is the next tank I plan on getting.

I don’t think that’s a very good deal. You could probably get a used tank setup very cheap on craiglist or in the local newspaper or something.

On craigslist for some reson it doesn’t work when I put in where I live wich sucks. And the only place that works near me is Dallas! And I would drive that far, but I can’t drive there myself and I don’t think my parents would do it anyways. They think that the turtles dont need a really big setup and they think I don’t have enough room for that size tank even though I already know where I plan to put it!

I would really rather have a fish tank, but I might have to do that. They do have a 47 gallon tupperware container and it’s even on wheels which would make it easier to roll outside to the waterhose, which is where I wash my tank, for I think $17.00.

i like using rubbermaid’s rather then tanks.. so much cheaper.

just keep in mind once you fill up that tub its not going to roll on the wheels very well, might even bust off depending on how much water you put in it.

also make sure its a strong tub. some bulge out once you add the water. that can make the sides bust.
