 Russian Tortoise?

I was at Petco today, and i saw the Russian Tortoises. It didn’t look like they were being properly cared fpr. Their food bowl was filled with dirt, no water, all there was was a place to hide. It was a 20gal long tank, and there were thre 4in turtles in it. I fell in love with them. How do i take care of them? how big a tank can they be kept in? Do they get really big?

if you’re interested buy one from a different store that properly cares for turtles/reptiles.my petco puts leopard geckos in 1 gallon tanks with nothing in the water bowl,on orange calci-sand,no hide, and a contant heat lamp. they have savana monitors in 5 gallon tanks with the same stuff. please don’t support those idiots by buying reptiles from them.if you do buy it from there, your russian probably will be sick anyways.do reaserch on them or ask on the tortoise forum.

I know how you feel, so far I’ve seen 3 turtles at my petsmart, and their tank is all fish gravel with about a 2.5 gallon container full of water with one of them filter waterfalls, wich takes up most of the swimming room. they all have been males and all have been around 4-6 inches. Right now they have about a 4 inch male with a 6 inch male in the same tank and I’m surprised they don’t have any injuries from aggression.
