 HELP!!! Respitory Infection!

I think my turle Flash, the one that doesn’t like to swim, has a Respitory Infection. He won’t eat, all he does is bask, every once in a while I see a bubble come out of his nose, around once every day. He also rubs his eyes some. I’m pretty sure it’s not serious yet, but I’m wanting to get rid of the infection as soon as possible. It’s been like this since Saturday. I’ve already lost one turtle to respitory infection, and I don’t want to lose another one.

 HELP!!! Respitory Infection!

I just took him to a vet that my Grandmother takes her dog to, and he said that it’s probably just stressed out from being moved around so much. He doesn’t think it has a respitory infection so I’m now happy. I was getting scared there for a while!

Emotional stress doesn’t make bubbles come out of their nose. You need a reptile vet.

Hell, even reptile vets can miss stuff. My oldest snake isn’t eating well this year, so I took her to the closest reptile vet, and they prescribed Cortisone for arthritis pain. Completely missing the fact that she’s had arthritis since since she was in her teens (she’s in her twenties now) and while it stops her from climbing and even constricting, it’s certainly never stopped her from eating dead food before. Also completely missing that her white blood cell count was through the roof by a factor of multiple zeros and that she would DIE without antibiotic injections every couple of weeks. So, they taught me how to give a shot, and I’m giving her the meds, and I’m glad I didn’t just listen to the first vet I saw.

Your turtle is acting sick. There are bubbles coming out of his nose. He needs a better vet.

 HELP!!! Respitory Infection!

No bubbles come out of his nose, and he doesn’t rub his eyes anymore. He still won’t eat but I’m sure once I go back home next week he’ll be fine. Really the only thing he’s doing different from what he used to do now is not eat, but I think I feed them to much anyways. I feed 1 when I wake up, 2 at around 3:00 P.M., and then 1 at 10:00 P.M..

 HELP!!! Respitory Infection!

Yeah, I’m starting to think you were right, he is really weak. Every few hours I pick him up to look ad make sure he’s still alive, and when I put him in the water he swims fine and goes right back and basks. He still won’t eat and a vet isn’t an option for me. Please help! Is there any way I get do something about it myself? I have lost one turtle already that you all didn’t no about and he died. I don’t want to lose this one, Iv’e already gotten attatched to it. I only had the one that died for less than a week. By the way Slash is doing fine.

last few babies i took in with RI got better really fast by just bringing the water temps up a bit. hard to say tho. i dont know how bad it is with yours. iv always been about to catch mine fast enough to get rid of it with out a vet.

do you have your turtle still in with the other one? i think i remember reading that you had 2 of them? id take the one out till its completely better and has no signs of infection just to be safe.

good luck i hope your baby gets better

 HELP!!! Respitory Infection!

I don’t think he has respitory infection anymore, because the only sign that has anything to do with RI that he’s doing is not eating. All he does is sit on the part of the turtle dock that is underwater and sleep. I try to feed him every time I feed Slash but he just won’t eat. When I try to feed him he turns around and ignores the food. I think it’s just stress now. The last time he ate was Last Saturday morning, just before I took them out of their tank, and ever since then he’s been acting funny.

he could be stressed because of the other turtle, is the other turtle like "the dominant one"? i would move him to a seperate tank.

or he could be impacted by something.maybe by gravel, fake plants,a mouthful of sand, etc. if you could get an x-ray that would be great, to see if it has impaction.alot of animals stop eating if impacted.a way to get impaction out of some reptiles is to give it a drop or a few drops of olive oil. it eases the impacted material out.if this doesn’t help then you might need surgery or he will die.

 HELP!!! Respitory Infection!

did you get both the turtles at the same time? i dont think it has anything to do with the other turtle. it may be just adjusting to its new home. you did just set its tank up from what i remember. i know that alone can cause stress on a turtle. id just give it time see what happens.

 HELP!!! Respitory Infection!

Nobody on here has helped me yet. And their are some people on here that have ha turtles for like 15 years at least, and even they can’t help me, so it doesn’t have anything to with being inexperienced it just has to do with if you’ve had that happen to you or something. I don’t want the thing to die, but I don’t want it anymore.

 HELP!!! Respitory Infection!

Ill try to help, when I had one of my turtles, it wouldnt eat(this was a while ago) I tried everything to get it to eat, and nothing worked, eventually the turtle started to eat fish, He was really young then, like your turtles age, I would suggest a riptile vet.
