How to get food in turtles mouth?

I was wondering if there is a way to force-feed a turtle? I’ve seen on one website where you put the turtle in a towl and put it between your legs and put enough pressure to keep them from getting away. Then trick them into opening their mouths and stick the food in their mouths and put them in the water so they can swallow. Would this work?

Dont worry about forcefeeding him, they can go a surprisingly long time without food, try romaine lettuce or a pea, add a few minnows, but try not to worry too much

Most of the time, they’ll stop eating when the temperature their in is too cold.
Is he/she active??
How old is it?

The only time it will swim is when I pick it up to make sure it’s still alive, then it will swim for a few minutes and then go and rest all day. I’ve had it for 1 month and 3 days and it is a less than 1 and a half inch.

the temperatures are probably too cold. As babies, sliders are REALLY timid. I remember when mine were just an inch or two, they’d swim FRANTICALLY the moment they saw our movements. One BIG mistake i made with them though, was buying them on instinct, not have a CLUE on how to take care of them. I remember first putting them in a "critter keeper" with cold water. Keep in mind I still had no idea this was bad. They were very scared, would sleep all the time, and wouldn’t eat. Immediately I started reading and researching everything I could, and placing them in the right conditions. It was then that I’d never saw them sleep much, would CONSTANTLY eat, and chased after fish and one another. Be sure to keep them away from too much movement outside the tank.

Keep us posted.

Right now it’s in a small container with just enough water to swim in, and I think he might have eaten one pellet, but I’m not 100% sure. He has to basking rocks and 1 rock just below the surface of the water to rest on.

since turtles are ectothermic, they don’t waste calories on having the right temperature in their body so thay can last a long time, and if the turtle bit you while you were force feeding it, you would be at risk of samanilla(i might have spelt that wrong) and it might take your finger tip to! keep us updates maybe he will eat soon.

I put him back in the 10 gallon now that I have a water heater, and Somebody told me dip turtle sticks in tuna juice and let it dry and feed it to them. Also the other turtle has bitten me once thinking it was food but it didn’t hurt it scared me and I yanked my finger out and he was still hanging on and went flying and landed on the carpet, but it hasn’t affected him at all. It didn’t draw blood though and was red for just a few minutes.

well its good to hear the turtle is doing good. when I feed my turtles they mistake my toes for food, except they never reach my toes in time. Well its good that turtle didn’t draw blood, that would be bad.

I’m always worried about salmanilla even in uninfected turtles. Its always good to have a clean turtle and a healthy one.

thanks for spelling salmonella right, I always spell it wrong! When i got my first RES I remember the person who got it for me told me to wash my hands 52 seconds after handling, ever since I was always worried about salmonella. It’s a good thing you didnt get it.
