 Potatoe Bugs.

I put a potaoe bug(crustacean) in to my painted turtle tank and he ate it right away without hesitation. i was wondering is they are ok to feed to my turtle

Not as lthe primary diet, but once in a while, in addition to everything else, sure. They actually have more calcium than crickets do, although not as much as snails or collard greens.

kinda odd that you would feed it to your turtle THEN ask if its safe.

im guessing you found it outside? if so i wouldnt recommend feeding anything to your pets that was brought from outside.

i really wouldn’t even feed snails.they have too big of a parasite load.

The higher the parasite risk on animals you’re feeding, the more important filtration and water changes are. I’m not sure a sowbug would be carrying a whole lot of things that reproduce underwater anyway though. Not impossible, when you figure in mud puddles and whatnot, but I’d feel safer feeding them to a turtle than I would to a lizard or something (even though I keep little orange CB ones in my lizard tub as scavengers...)
