 New turtles!

northern maps

i got them from someone who didn’t want them anymore. the larger one looks like it’s wild caught but i don’t think they’re native here.

this 10 gallon is very temporary for the larger one, but home for the hatchling and i take them outside for uvb 1-2 hours a day.at least it’s better than artificial uvb!

It would be good to get a 55 gallon tank ASAP. You could keep them both in a 55 for quite some time

I’d keep them seperate until their sizes get more similar. They’ve got very strong beaks; the big one could kill the little one withouit even trying, if the little one goes too close to something that the big one wants to nibble.

i put the larger one in the 75 gallon tank with my 2 RES,YBS,and rio grande.
i am thinking of moving the 2 RESs into a pond, but just to test it out i a put a wild red bellied cooter in there and he made the great escape within 36 hours and so did my 8 inch common snapper, within 12 hours.is there any good escape-proof fencing i can get at walmart, winn dixie, home depot or lowes?
my backyard isn’t fenced off so if they make the great escape too, there will be another 2 RES in the stream or lake,in the woods.

i heard map turtles are "social" like if 10 turtles are basking on a log and only one hears a faint sound and slides in the water, the whole other mound of turtles pile in.?
would it be better to leave them solitare?

i’ll get some. it looks a little crowded but i am thinking of moving both of the res into the pond so the 75 gallon will have lot of room for the smaller turtles.
but the gate to the pond sucks so i won’t be moving the res for a few weeks.
