 RES Question. are they fighting or is he tryin to get a "date" lol

i have 2 RES’ one male one female. i’ve noticed that the male is constantly positioning himself infront of her & he puts his nails in her face and waves them really fast against her face. she gets ticked off and pushes him away and swims off but he follows her and does it again. it doesn’t look like they are fighting, but i just want to make sure.

how long and old are they?

it is probably a mating sign if they are adult and different sexes, but if they are young and only a few inches long or less,or a different sex then it is territorial.

they are about 5 inch each and almost 4yrs old. ones a male and ones a female (dead give aways tails and nails)

i moved recently and one of the movers fell down the stairs w/ the tank i had them in, it broke and he had to go to the hospital (hes doing better now) so i have them in their feeder tank for the time being until i can get them a larger tank. its a 45gal. not sure what size I’m gonna get this time what would be good for them??
