My daughter found what we think is a midland painted not sure. He/She not sure what sex ,I think its a male. I have read a lot of the postings and I think we’re on the right tract. He did not take to commercial food. I’ve tried Zoo Med and also Reptomin floating sticks but he will not touch them. I’m a little worried that hes not getting enough nourishment. He loves eating shrimp and krill. We’re also feeding him meal worms and crickets. We feed him three times a day. He is just a hatch ling maybe two inches. Hes in a ten gal tank for now. But is there anything else? I want to make sure hes getting all that he needs for a good healthy life. I’ll try posting pics If I can figure it out.

if he is wild, let him go and buy one from the store. he likely has many parasites and is very stressed out.
mealworms, waxworms, and superworms should only be occasional treats,mealworms/superworms have a bad phosphorus to calcium ratio and waxworms are very high in fat.
collared greens,romaine lettuce(not iceberg lettuce),crickets,turtle pellets,earthworms,silkworms,hornworms,guppies(no goldfish!),etc are good foods for a painted turtle.
three times a day is too much. one-two times a day is better.

do you have a heat lamp and UVB light for it?a 120 gallon tank or pond when it gets dependant on you for food and it gets to 12 inches?
turtles need AT LEAST 10 gallons of water per inch of turtle. a 5 inch turtle needs a 50 gallon tank,a 2 inch turtle a 20 gallon tank, etc. the bigger is always better though.

I do have heat and uv light for him. The tank he is in is a temp. i have a 140 coming after a friend is finished moving. I’m still tring the pellets hoping he’ll take to them. He does’nt seem to be stressed he does alot of basking and i have plants for hiding. although he uses the plants to float on. Is he a little small yet for fish? He is just a hatchling. I’ll start cutting back on what i’m giving him and go back to worms and crickets.is there other greens they like? I tried the romaine but it does’nt seem to want it.thank for the info.
