(and red legs) lol

well actually that shell shape is very common in the western box turtle.
I FOUND A RANCH WITH A HUGE COLONY ON IT!!!!!!!!! it turns out Ive been going there once a year every year and never knew they had a colony of ornate box turtles on there ranch sooo.... he might be going home! (even though it will be a new home and it will be in colorado)

But I have another option too, I found A guy who breeds western box turtles and if I buy a female I can breed them.
So what do you think I should do Gottee? because I would NEVER EVER EVER EVERE EVER EVER want to take one out of the wild, but if I buy a female and breed them I will be helping the ornate population.
well yeah thank yall for the posts, and the complements. I post pics of him when he is not muddy in a couple days

wait,is that an ornate or a western? you’re saying its both lol.its an ornate right?

well, there’s inns and outs of each option.
say if you take him to the ranch, the other turtles may have already taken up all of the territory.
i.e.,if you have 1 acre of land and 4 male box turtles they will all fight for that 1 acre. so if another turtle roams in it will either have to fight for the 1 acre or leave, because there is no room for another turtle there.
so if that’s your turtle fighting for some land in that ranch,it may loose and will have to go somewhere else, away from the ranch, and then some car might hit it or a kid will find it and put it in a 10 gallon tank.
but then again, there could be lots of room for extra box turtles on that ranch.

but if you keep it and give it a mate,
1. it won’t have much of a choice of turtles to mate with.
2. it may pass on diseases, parasites, etc to the female.
3.it might grow dependant on you for food.
just as long as you give them lots of space and a natural varied diet,it should be fine.

imo i would rather keep it,breed it,then let it and it’s babies go on the ranch.
