 SHELL ROT?????

well... (i know you guys are probably getting tired of me =P)
but when we got her she had some white "stuff" on her shell and i just kindof put it off on my mind as peeling... but it hasn’t stopped and it has gotten worse... ((im sorry i know the pics are fuzzy))

theres also her belly, which i dont know if its the same thing or if its from the one time i had her out in the backyard... she had been going towards this large crack((that she could easily fit in)) under our porch and to redirect her i generaly just walk around her and she moves, but instead as i was walking she stepped on my foot, causing her to spin a little bit on her belly (on the concrete). The spots on each of her sides almost look like a skinned knee...

it has been a few days sense i took the pictures, the spots on her back are slightly worse, and her belly’s barely pink anymore (in exception of those two spots))

I’m not gonna try to lend any medical advice because honestly I’m just getting into this but I do know that it would help to also know what your setups like with heat, lights basking stuff etc., oh an the size of your tank and how many turtles you have in it if more than one.

 SHELL ROT?????

no its just her

I know other people like GoateeGuy ((i dont know if youve seen his name pop up anywhere))
have read my previous posts

No she is not in a proper sized tank, she is in an old ten gallon
Yes i know thats insanely too small

She has rocks (ones from my yard) piled up on the one side (to create a shallow area and a basking area) with a large flat one thats sides ramp down for her basking area, and a bunch of smooth blue rocks (like you would find in the arts and crafts section of walmart) that cover the bottem, i have a basking light, at least 78% of the tank is left for swimming.

I know that its very inadequite housing but my mom wants to make sure she lives awhile before we invest too much into her.

I realy hope whatever this is i can help with it, because I’m already attached (we’ve had her for about 2 1/2 weeks). She comes up to the glass when ever i enter the room, and she’s already eating from my hand.

 SHELL ROT?????

do you mean that white stuff at the top of its shell in the first pic?

that is not shell rot. that may be a fungal disease, but the pics are a bit too blurry to tell.i can help if you post clear pics of your whole setup and turtle, clearly.
i think the basking area looks too wet,but i haven’t seen it all so i can’t tell.

do you have a UVB light?or do you take it outside for at least a half hour each day?UVB is essencial for proper bone structure and growth(don’t know how many times i’ve said that but i’ve pretty much memorized it).get a 5.0 reptisun UVB florecent tube from most chain pet stores and keep it on for 12 hours a day.
or like i said, just take him outside for at least half an hour each day.12 hours of artificialk UVB = half an hour of real UVB.

i really don’t know what the plastron colors mean, but when my hatchling yellow belly slider died i saw it had a red plastron.
i wouldn’t worry and stress way too much though. if you can take it to a vet that is great.
if you can’t i would make a full water change, bleach the tank and the bricks, stones etc. and bleach or hand sanitize EVERYTHING in the tank so it kills every disease.clean it out with soap and water again, rinse everything off with water thoroughly. and then when you get the tank set up again, put a half teaspoon of calcium dust in the water and also put fish disease killers in the water.but ONLY the kinds that DO NOT have slime coating for fish.
the ones with the slime coat can stop the turtle from shedding.

sounds like a lot but if you care about your turtle that much i would either do that, take it to a vet, or both.

i would do both.

 SHELL ROT?????

i’ll try to get better pics up soon, the basking area is only wet because she had pulled her self up and onto it, making it wet.

i dont have a uvb light, but i do take her out whenever i can, (when its not raining, im not watching my siblings, dogs are locked up in the house, etc.)

i probably wont be able to get fish disease killers or calcium dust until this weekend (at the very least)

i do realy already care for alot and i would get her stuff, if only i had my license (i STILL need to take that stupid test), but for now i just have to wait until my mom can take me

you can put it in a rubbermaid toat with a shallow water dish and a hiding place outside for a few hours if you can’t watch it all the time.at least it will get some direct sunlight.maybe a chance to dry off 100 percent.

Until you can’t smell it in the tank anymore, or at least 48 hours.

Eventually you will have to build an above tank basking area, or make your basking area out of corkbark.

Im going to be removing those brown rocks and replacing them with a log thing, yes i still realize the tank is too small, and no i dont have a filter yet...

But see it this way, my mom doesnt want to put a penny into it, i cant drive... i need to go take the stupid test... and the only job i have is babysitting someones kids and that is only like once everyother week (i get about 15 bucks every time).

Its hard for me to raise much money because I am a teenager, and there are things that i need to buy other than for the turtle

but anywho... pictures =D :

That’s a lot better, but you could raise the water level.

ya i know, i feel realy bad keeping her in that small thing.... i put back some of the money i make so i can save up for a bigger tank... it would be so much easier if my grandma gave me her 55gallon right now.... she got it from her neighbor (it has everything included, filter, decor, etc.) and it has a stand... and its just sitting in her dining room right now... she keeps saying she’s gonna get fish to put in it.. but she doesnt have the time to get the fish let alone take care of them... she’s never home!

Go to Walmart, spend $20 on a 50 gallon rubbermaid. Make that her home!!! Much better than the tank. Use a old hose to drain and fill every 3 days until you get a filter.

Put in smaller rubbermaid with a little water and a rock in shade where sun still comes through the trees, do that atleast 4 times aweek for an hour
