 Thinking about getting a turtle

I’ve got a empty 29 gal aquarium and was thinking about putting a turtle in it but don’t know which one to get. So I just wanted to get some input from you guys.

Red eared sliders, would of coarse would be the easiest ones to get your hands on, but I suggest a map, painted or cooter.

For such a small tank, only get one, unless they are really small, and you are willing to upgrade VERY soon.

I am going to get them really small but cant really get a another tank that’s why I’m looking for a turtle that will stay small enough to stay in the 29. If two could stay in there for acouple of years then I might be able to get them something bigger.

Even the smallest species are probably going to want at least 40 gallons of water, and they don’t grow nearly as slowly as a lot of people seem to think. Remember, that’s 40 gallons of water, not of empty tank space, so unless you’re building an above-tank basking cage (and have a species that likes deep water,) you need to have a tank bigger than the actual amount of water you’ll be using. It’s common, for example, for people to get a 55 gallon and put about six inches of water in it while still insisting their turtle has 55 gallons. No, actually it has more like 15...
Male diamondbacks are very small turtles. Mine is over two years old and only 4.5". His water area, not even counting the basking area above it, is 48" long, 18" wide, and 19.5"-20" deep. And I STILL "redecorate" every few weeks to keep him from getting bored. Most turtles don’t swim and dive quite as constantly or energetically as diamondbacks, but still, you’d be talking about 50 gallons instead of about 70- you still need a large tank.

Water Land Tubs are made for turtles and in my opinion are only second to an actual pond.

boxies arnt that easy to care for.
map turtles dont die fro meating stones. they sually die from poor husbandry.

you should have bought a musk turtle, not a map and painted. they wil lboth need a larger tank, my largest map is 10" long, painted turtles grow about 6" max. ur tank wont last long.

musk turtles stay around 4" and arnt very active swimmers.
