You can try kingsanke . com (no spaces) there are a lot of breeders there and many kinds of turtles. Just look in the classified section under the turtle tab. Good luck :)

LLL Reptile and Supply has great quality cuora for only about twenty too thirty dollars. But Kingsnake.com classifieds will have some great deals as well.

Now I was planning on housing one C. ambo in a 40 gallon breeder tank. However If i wanted a pair of turtles what size tank would I need? also what is the best filtration system for a tank of this size? Any info would be great.

They can’t be kept in a tank, or something as small as a fourty gal. Get a large rubbermaid tub. Or a outdoor enclosure. You won’t need a filtration system because they are mostly terrestrial and only require a large soaking dish. I got to go so I’ll give you more information sometime.

Before you get one or two, you should do a lot of research.

I’ve been researching but its just hard finding reputable info, thats why I wanted to ask people who actually own turtles. But thank you very much for the links and the info.

The reason I dont want a rubbermaid is because you can’t actually see the animals swimming. However I would never let the animals health suffer for the sake of the tank looking good.

Glad you are doing research, its always good to find out all you can before getting one. Here’s one more site incaase i forgot it above.
http://www.turtlepuddle.org/cuora/amboinensis.html

As far as the advice above about being mostly terrestrail and not needing anything more then a large soaking dish without a filter - not true.

It all depends on what kind you get. They are highly aquatic but do need land. There are different kinds though and your tank set up will depend on exactly which kind you are planning on getting.

I’m sorry, I was not specific enough on the "soaking dish". I was in a hurry to leave. What I meant was don’t have a viv set up like a red-ear slider tank. The soaking tub should be large and big enough to swim in. It is true that certain sub-species may vary though. I personally don’t use a filter if it is not a "semi aquatic tank". With big tubs used as the water source I generally prefer to wash it out by hand every day or two instead of having to mess with filter (I don’t have good luck with filters). Some prefer a filter though. And I would too if you have it set up in a large semi aquatic tank (Obviously you can’t dump that out every day). Sorry for the confusion.

i have 4 mal. box turtles in a 5ft by 2ft by 2ft aquarium, with about 6" of water and a large basking area. they are only young so they tent to spend most of their time in the water. adults tent to be more terrestrial.
when they grow i will move them to a more 50/50 land water viv.

they are pretty hard to get over here (UK) in america they are more common. i paid £90 per turtle. not sure how much that is in the US. i found one LTC forsale for £200 AND CAPTIVE BREDS COST A LOT MORE.

plz dont buy them unless u are going to breed from them because they are becoming increasingly rare in malasia. - due to the food trade and pet trade.
try to source CB babies. it will be hard but try your best. i was told mine were CF, lies - two had skin rot and minor shell rot, worms and toes missing. pet shops rele suck a lieing.

they are ace little turtles though, very friendly, mine eat from my fingers. i might have to add a musk turtle to their enclosure today. my friend can no longer care for it and i dont have anyother tanks... hopfuly they will be ok... if not the map turtles will have a new friend.

Yeah I bought two from LLL reptiles in Oceanside, CA. The pet shop told me they were shedding, but upon further research it became apparent that they do in fact, have a minor case shell rot. I’ve been treating it with hydrogen peroxide because I was unable to locate Nolvasan. If they don’t improve within a week or two I will be forced to return them.

Hmmm, post some pics... LLL Reptiles has always been a truthfull and knowledgable company. I would expect that they are indeed just shedding. Some pics would help if you could.

I had them checked out and thank god they do not have shell rot, however they are in fact wild caught. So they lied to me about them being CB.

You can’t really see the bad areas all well as I would like, but thats all I have for now.

How would you know that they are wild caught? Just because they have some bumps? They keep theirs in large, and most likely, outdoor pens. So bumps happen.
I know people who buy Coura from them and get a perfect little turtles, sometimes these kind of things just happen. I can pretty much assure you that they are CB.
I would toss them an email asking how they take care of their Coura, show some of the breeding stock etc...

Just don’t jump to conclusions.

Ok i’m not jumping to conclusions. When I bought them the employee told me they were CB. When I begun to think they had shell rot I called the store and talked to the manager. The manager confirmed that they were indeed wild caught. As for them being outdoors...not so. They had about 8 or 9 of the turtles in a 12"X24" vision type cage with a small water bowl and a log-hide. Thats it. So i’m wondering why you are so sure that they are CB?

Sorry for the misunderstanding. To me it sounded like you concluded that they were wild-caught because they had shell damage.

Now I understand, sorry for your bad experience with LLL. But I bet you will love em’ a just as much anyway.

Good luck with them.
