 What fish can musk turtles get along with?

Pretty straightforward, I am getting a pair of adult musks to breed. I currently have a betta, and was wondering if the two would get along, and what other fish could go in to spruce up the tank? NO GOLDFISH. I hate them and have no luck with them.

I’d say anything bigger than the musk turtles. But nothing that would nibble on their legs or anything like that. Go to the pet store and see what gets like 6+ inches.

what about a pleco to help keep the cage clean? they get like 8in I believe and there not very aggressive. plus there nocturnal so they wont even be active at the same time.

A pleco would be good. I had one but over crowded my pond for like 3 days with turtles and they decided to eat it (lesson learned).

i have a young musk turtle with a load of fish:

2 bristle nosed plecos (they stay smaller than common plecs that can grow 12" long - no exaggeration i used to work in a fish shop and they make soo much S*IT!!! not worth it.)

1 jewl cichlid, fairy cichlids, tropheus, a jack dempsey. - all hardy and stand their ground.

i also have two pictus catfish - only been in the tank a few days but so far so good.


i keep a lot of turtles and fish together. usually everything goes fine as long as u follow the rules:

dont cround! make sure they is plenty of space and hides or the fish/turtles.

no long fins - they will be too tempting for the turtle to resist = dead fish (bettas are prbably the worst choice of fish for a turtle tank)

nothing dangerous - pirannahs arnt great lol

fast fish stay alive longer lol

cichlids are a great choice because they are very hardy and aggressive - this wont bother turtle turtles but the turtles soon learn that the fish wont take crap.
i have a blue mbuna cichlid and a ornate birchir in my turtle pond - the bmuna cichlid picks fights with all the turtles lol. turtles dont rele notice.

be careful with musk turtles - they can be aggressive with one another.
