 Cuttlebone question

I have a hatchling RES. I just bought a cuttlebone to help with calcium. I guess I have two questions. First, is he too young to have one (meaning will he really use it at such a young age)? And second, can I break the cuttlebone in half and put it in his tank? The thing is really big to be floating in a tank his size, plus he’s so small I don’t think he’ll need that much at the moment. Thanks for any help!
