They can hold the sperm for yrs and wait until they are ready to lay. Are they inside or outside? With fall here she may not lay until spring. But she could lay sooner if shes inside. Sometimes they stop eating for a month or so when getting ready to lay - mine however did not. They get very active though looking for a lay spot. Some will dig test holes all over looking for the right spot. If they are inside they need some deep substrate that is kept moist to lay in. You can also feel for the eggs with your fingers in front of their back legs.

If you want to hibernate you’ll have to do a good search as there are some different ways to do it. I haven’t hibernated mine yet, mayber next year...
What kind of moss? Peat moss or spagnum moss or stuff from outside? Can she dig in it?

I use peat moss mixed with organic soil and a little sand, works great for Boxies and holds moisture well so they don’t get dehydrated. The bed a beast is good too :) and should be nice with some sphagnum on top of it. I’m sure they like hiding in it :)
If she does have eggs are you going to take them out or leave them in the enclosure?

How to tell if my boxie is gravid

My enclosure is 6’x3’x18", half is the dirt mix about 7 inches deep and the other half is tile flooring with some large flat rocks over part of it and a large water tub. I have two three toed box turtles in there and they have 4 hides. I had some small plants in there but need to replace them now as the ones I had got trampled...
I have two lights - one over each half of the enclosure and they also get some outside time when its not too hot (in az) :)
I got four eggs a couple months ago but three where bad right off and it doesn’t look like the third is going to make it now... not sure if they were fertile :( maybe next time. I didn’t have an incubator but our house is the right temp for having them on a shelf.
