Info on yellow bellied turtles plz

hi, firstly forums are generally for asking specific question/addressing problems that cannot be found in a book or care sheet.

i cant be arsed to describe all their care. its basically the same as any other turtle.

they can grow up to 12" long, require a large aquarium or pond (indoors in they arnt native to your area) males are smaller.

the pond/tank should be no smaller than 6x as long as the turtle, and should be a min of 3 x as wide as the turtle is long so it can turn around, water as deep as possible.

the water should be heated to 25c with an aquarium heater (a guard must be fitted so the turtle cant burn or break it) and filtered very well with either and aquarium filtero r pond filter designed for bigger tanks than yours - turtles make more mess than fish.

a basking area - dry land section with a heat lamp over it, should be around 30-35c

a specialist UVB light designed for reptiles. something higher than 5% uvb. try n get the highest rating possible. needs changing every 6months.

their diet is a mixture of good quality pellet food (reptomin by tetra is pretty good) cockles, muscles, fish crickets etc.

thats basically a short version to sum up care, most pet shops wont even tell you that much.

go do lots of research before buying a turtle. they get big, are expencive and loads of people end up giving them away, i have 17 turtles (i think ?) most were rescues cos they got too big.

if u want somthing smaller try musk turtles or male map turtles.

austins turtle page i s agreat site for turtle info.
