 What Kind of Turtle is this?

I am living in Boston, MA and trying to find out whether this turtle is a land or water turtle because I found it while out on a walk and would like to keep it as a pet. Can you help me?

Actually, you don’t NEED to do anything. If you want it, buy a tank and a strong filter. Later on you’re going to need something big because those turtles eat a lot, make a mess, and grow very quickly.

Actually depending on where the person lives it could be illegal to take them out of the wild or even own them at all. Maybe before you tell someone its ok to keep a wild turtle - especially a snapper- you should have them check their laws. And if everyone just goes out and takes them from the wild their won’t be any wild ones left....
and snappers aren’t for everyone, they get big and have a very powerful bite.

as already mentioned it could be illegal. its illgal to the UK to keep native wildlife. dunno about US.

it doesnt just need a tank and strong filter, its needs a list of other stuff.

its wild, he has no right to keep it. if he wants a turtle he should buy a captive bred one from a reputable source.
and it really shouldnt be a snapper, possibly worst turtle to start turtle keeping with.

Definitely a snapping turtle, but it still has it’s yolk so it won’t eat until the yolk is eaten.

dude i found an alligator snapping turtle and he’s about a few inches smaller then a basketball but i found him when he was about the size of -im looking around my desk to find some thing to compare him to- he was about the size of MY mouse which is probably hard to compare to your mouse cause its probably not the same...

i found him and have had him for about 2 years now, and i plan on keeping him, though it is TUFF and expensive to keep one, if you have the money and the tiiiiiiime, go for it. =] (i fought the law and the law doesn’t know)
oh yeah and they bite O.O and it doesn’t feel pleasnt and their pointy beak doesn’t help either just ask my pinki finger ,that wasn’t his best day in the world

also, ignore tree huggers, you only live once.
lol this is gonna get a lot of angry replies =p

im not angry with anything u have said in that post appart from the last bit. if it was illegal to keep turtles where i livei still would. ... thas not the most illegal thing i get up to. so i dont judge you for that.

howeveri just dont like the bit at the end... the whole ’you only live once, screw the world’ attitude. u like ur snapper right? - imagin if there wernt any for you to enjoy? thats the reality of having such a point of view.
you only live once, live for the day fine. but the next generation will only live once. how is it fare that they have to deal with the messes we make?
pointless arguing with an american tho... i mean srewing over the planet for your own enjoyment is pretty much the core belief of america is it not?
