Spiny Soft Shell and RESs
Would it be safe to keep my baby Spiny Soft Shell with two baby RES? They are all a bit under 2inches. This would only be temporary housing. In the near future, i will be receiving a large fish tank, that use to have many koi fish. Something over 100gallons. |

when i first started keeping chelonia i did lots of research, and decided to map turtles would be a gret species to start - - didnt want anything too big. finially i bought the two.. but there was also a really cool looking turtle in the tank.. no idea what it was. apparently it was softshell turtle. the shop said it grew 7" or so and would be fine with the maps... NOPE. after a few weeks it started to get ggressive with food. it bit both my turtles and the fish.... after some research i found out how big it actually got... so it went back to the shop. these are the reasons why yo should been the two together: softies get very aggressive and will attack other tutles. despite their aggresive mannor they also can become the turtle that suffers, they are ’soft’ - soft shell can get scratched buto ther turtles claws and then get infected = death. just dont bother. 20 gallons or so is also too small a tank for 3 turtle of 2" in length. this new tank u are getting, somthing over 100 galons... by how much? it used to have koi in. koi grow very large and i wouldnt keep for than 5 young koi carp in a tank of 100 gallons or so. what are the tank sizes for the turtles atm? |
