 Keeping turtles in the UK

I read on a website that you can keep red eared sliders, softshell turtles and snapping turtles outside in the UK. I can understand the red eared sliders because they are also a European species, but can the others also be kept outdoors? I live in the south of england so the temps dont really go below 2 degrees celcius. Would it be possible to keep any turtles in an outdoor pond all year in the south of england?

that was rude.

plus i do!

im a UK turtle keeper!!!! whooopp! .... ITS NOT THAT EXCITING.

um yeah... where ever u got that info from, very bad! lol.
snapprs and RES can survive in our climate because their natural ranges in america (NOT EUROPE lol) do extend quite north.
HOWEVER... survive isnt exactly what we are looking for when keeping an animal. we want to aim for thrive. not simply survive.
i wouldnt recomend keeping any species outside all year round in the UK (appart from european species like european pond turtles and spannish terrapins) .. but those a v. hard to find in the trade. i recently lost my pond turtle.
during the warmer summer months (or weeks as the case may be) you can house them outside but id bring them in during the night.
i did some work experience and beaverwaterworld reptile rescue centre . . .they housed their turtles outside. i found a LOT of dead ones and empty shells when i cleaned out the ponds... so not good. a poor little map turtle froze over night. i hate that place.
but if u are after some turtles you could go save some, its in tatsfield which is in the south. SURREY.
where abouts r u located?
i built an indoor pond in my basement. might build another in the garage. much better way of housing turtles, simple wooden box with a pond liner and sides.

ok no sweat.

you live in surrey? same. what are the odds.
i live in bookham, near guidlford. know it? where abouts are you?

anyway back on topic. beaver water world is the name of the rescue centre, its in tatsfield. about an hour drive from me.
they havea web site if u just wack their name into google yuo should find it with the exact address.

it is run by an old lady called stella, and her daughter emilie. try n talk to emilie cos she is more... um.. normal. lol.
they usually have loads of turtles in need of a home. various different species. they usually as kfor a donation, its pretty minimal.
if u know much about reptile keeping you might be a bit shocked by what u see, its a bit run down n they are low on funding. try not to say anything about cos they get arsy.
just preparing you for it lol.
