My turtle’s skin is peeling....
i have 2 redear sliders in a 29 gallon tank w/ a light that gives out uvb and uva and have a rock to bask on. They are very happy and swim around and chase the fish...their skin is peeling though, is that normal? It’s little wispy piece of skin that partially cling to the turtle and are partially hanging off. I’m mostly feeding them nutrafin pellets, but I sometimes give them a little bit of fish.

My turtle’s skin is peeling.... hiu it could be that your turt is shedding his/her skin at the mo, is it like spider’s web. if so it’s most likely shedding nothing wrong its just growing.

My turtle’s skin is peeling.... hmm...i have a long 29 gallon tank...that’s still too small for a redear that’s about 1 1/2 inches in length? Yay! I’m glad that the peeling skin means their growing! I’ve noticed their shell has gotten a little bit bigger...about when should I start giving them feeder fish?

My turtle’s skin is peeling.... i’d say 4-5 inches is good for feeder fish(rosie red’s or guppies....NOT GOLDFISH!)goldfish r bad because they have a chemical that does not let calcium absorb!but u should feed crickets.personally tho, i have raied 3 healthy RES’s from just fluker’s aquatic turtle pellets w/ free-dried shrimps and the occasional feeder fish and lettuce.

My turtle’s skin is peeling.... Crickets are high in phosphorus and should not be fed to your turtle unless they are gut loaded in calcium first. Goldfish do contain some biotin which binds to calcium, but what makes a goldfish useful is that they have bones..and bones are made of calcium. You can give your turtle goldfish as long as you have additional calcium available like a cuttle bone for birds. Or A calcium block for rodents, or turtles...keep in mind the medicated turtle blocks lack in calcium. GD

My turtle’s skin is peeling.... Thank you for posting - I was worried when I saw the 1st post about NO GOLDFISH. Our pet store (and yes, I know they often give bad advice) told us he was eating 5 goldfish per day, no pellets - no vegetation. We changed the diet to 2 goldfish per day, some turtle pellets and fresh veggies for him to chomp on. We also have the cuttlebone in the tank as well, which he really seems to like. Thank you also for posting re: the peeling skin. We just noticed that ours is doing that as well in the past 2 days. I was worried we were doing something wrong. This is a great forum - I’m sure it’s saved me a TON in vet bills already! :)

My turtle’s skin is peeling....
Hi. My name is Evan. My Turtles name is swami. We live in a tiny apartment all alone right now while I’m going to college. I love turtles. I dont know why, but I just love the looks on their faces. Swami lookslike he is always smiling. Anyway His skin is peeling right now too. I take good care of him, doing everything I can to keep him healthy. He is in a big tank with turtle ramps and everthing. What I’m getting at here is that I work so hard to keep my turtle healthy and happy, but my Aunt has had her turtle for 6 years now and does almost nothing. Her Turtle is fully grown, he lives in a small little tank with 3 seashells, can’t even get out of the water to bake, no light, no heater, very small cage with just enough room to turn around, she only feeds him pellets.THE THING IS THAT THE TURTLE IS PERFECTLY FINE!!! HE’S SO HEALTHY LOOKING. EVEN IN THE WINTER WITH NO HEAT, HE STILL GOES STRONG. Looking at her turtle, I’m begining to think that the turtle market sucks us all in, wanting us to buy more and more things. Don’t get me wrong I love my Swami and will continue to do everything in this world for him, but their real environment is in a merky nasty pond and we continue to make out turtles swim in bottled water or treated tap water. I just think they may be spoiled hahahah! Keep taking care of your turtles and show them the attention they need please.
