Skin dissorder closes my Uro’s eye
Started as a small patch of white scales on back right side of neck. About 6 months ago. Looks as if skin has lost pigment, Shed normally like other skin. Spread forward slowly until about 3 months ago it was completely covering right side of his face. I was asking around at different pet stores but noone could advise me or tell me where to look for help. Two months ago his right eye closed and has been shut ever since. Starting to worry having no luck. I will post a pic here as soon as I can. Has anyone seen or heard of this before. Can anyone advise without seeing it. Any ideas on where I can look in my area would also be helpful. I am from Brooklyn New York. Of you can Contact me direct. woodfinishes@yahoo.com |

| Get to a vet as soon as you can. It’s probably either a bacterial or fungal infection. If you assume bacteria and use antibiotics, a fungus can start growing out of control because there are no beneficial bacteria to help kill it off. Antifungal meds are harsh and can cause liver toxicity if there is no fungus absorbing all the toxic stuff. So it’s best to find out exactly what is causing the problem so you don’t just make things worse. |

| Pet store advice isn’t always that good anyway. Many folks have no training in animal husbandry and don’t know the proper way to keep animals. They generally recommend over-the-counter treatments that have mostly water and very little medicine, plus it might not be the right medicine for the cause of the problem. You can check HerpVet Connection or ARAV to see if there’s a reptile vet in your area. |
