My female uro has hard skin. Do you give her soaks? Especially here in Fl. where we use the a/c most of the year I find giving a soak once a week is an important part of my Uros. routine care. When using the a/c it draws most of the humidity out of the air and drys the skin, just as cold weather chaps humans skin. Even though a Uro. is used to a dry climate with low humidity it could be possible she needs a soak to help her shed some of her dead skin build-up. This is only a thought, but it may be worth a try. Joan A.

My female uro has hard skin. Hello,we recently lost one of our ornates because of a strange skin disease. Firstly the skin became very rough on the right side of the belly, then these areas got thicker and formed plats. The last stage was that these plats released partly from the body, then blood and some secretions appears. These process tooks about ten weeks. During this time we visited several times the vet. He tooks parts from the skin for further detailed examination in a laboratory. The only result from these examinations was that the skin was not infected by a fungus development. The only thing what we could do was to apply an ointment based on fish liver oil. Try to give your uro a bath in camomile tea (at a prefered temperature of course) every other day. Daily apply some ointment (ask your vet). Good luck! Andreas

How’s recently ????? well i would have thought that i had something to do with environment too but the male that is in the same cage with her is doing good.he has no sign of any type of skin illness.however she has always been really nervous and the healthy male is very layed back and easy going with people. so perhaps its poor health do to that but there is no way to tell for sure. i will keep everyone posted as to her health. i hope it improves.

How’s recently ????? well she died tonight. she was doing ok and then she just bottomed out. im not sure of cause of death but i could be a mix of things. she was nevous by nature since the day i got her(over 2 years ago).so im guessing what ever this skin problem was was too much for her to fight off with her nerves and stress. the male that has been her cage mate since i got her has shown no signs of the skin illness and still eats like a pig and is very active. i was planning to get a second female this winter but now im having second thoughts. i dont want to put another animal in danger without fully understanding what killed this one. well i just thought some of you would want to be updated on what happened

How’s recently ????? Thank-you for the update and my condolences on the loss of your little girl. As you say stress can be a mjor issue in health. I have Lupus and it flairs with stress and not only affects my skin, but my internal organs. It almost sounds like a similiar disorder. I have never done the research on reptiles having lupus, but I know it can affect cannine and Feline species. Something that you might want to look into. Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the body fight against itself. It is not contagious and it is still not known if heredity is a factor. Good luck with your little boy. Joan A.

My female uro has hard skin. Grandma, It seems Tmac needs to follow the Threads more closely and do a little more research on nutrition. I read that the Uros. owned by this person is fed only Romain lettuce. It seems the advice given by this person needs to be reviewed before being followed and goes against everything that the long standing members on this forum have discussed and researched. Joan A.
