 Uro fan- new mali mom

about two and a half weeks ago i found, yes i said found, a mali uromastyx. a cat was chaseing it around. i had know idea what it was i just thought it was cute as could be. i got straight on the web looking for info. when i found out what she was i couldnt believe it. i new nothing about lizards but i love all animals i now know i did the worst thing i could have done. yep. i called a certain large pet store chain (not smart). told them what i had and i was comming buy to pick up whatever i might need for her. i did just that. they had no problem selling me over $300 of stuff that i was taking back the next day. after finding this site and others. i think i now have things under control and still making some changes. uro-fan you will i hope be happy to know that i have taken you advice about pretty much everything. i ditched the sand after just a few days also had to bathe her she was covered in dust she now has millet seed that she seems just love. i have a 40 reptile and i am drawing plans to build her a better home. im not happy that she doesnt seem to have alot of room to roam around. i have the correct lighting but do need to add more uvb. bought a 2.0. and her heat i think needs to be a little higher. basking @110 amb. 90-95 cool end stays about 80 she has equal space for heat and cool sides. i do however seem to have a problem keeping the humidity low enough. it gets to 30 or 40 but at night the temp around 70 75 the humidity is 50-60.what should i do. will a pad heater be to warm for night she likes to sleep on the hot side. through it all she seems to be very happy. i have read alot about other uros have so many problems with stress but i dont seem to have these problems. she seems to like attention and always recognizes my voice and looks for me.other than when i originally found her she only puffed up when i gave her a bath, she is about 8 inches, havent measured, eats well though she wont eat most of the greens shes suposed to like kale, mustard and such she does love dandylion flovers and greens, how much is to much? i have give her some flowers from my lantana plant, i really need more info on this, it was red and she goes nuts over red and yellow but wont eat yellow sqaush, she also likes split peas, carrots, clover, strawberry leaves and shes had a strawberry just starting to ripen. i love to grow plants so anything i can grow myself i will. ive read alot about pollen also and have noticed her appetiete drop when she doesnt have flowers thats why the lantana. i have large peace lillys that are allways blooming. the plant could be bad but what about the pollen. need more reall info. cant imagine what this poor thing has been through living outside who knows for how long. in georgia yet!

STOP!!!!! feeding the lantana IMMEDIATELY ... this plant is toxic and can kill your Uro. Just a word of warning, though, do NOT feed anything to it that you are not 100% sure is safe and nontoxic. I’ve heard of someone who fed their Uro a rhododendron flower and it died.

The known edible flowers are hibiscus, pansy, dandelion, nasturtium, squash blossoms, some orchids, etc. When you do feed edible flowers, you also need to be 100% sure that they have not been sprayed with any type of herbicide or pesticide. I did a quick Google search on Lantana and found dozens of websites stating that this plant is poisonous. If you’re not sure, always ask here or find out before feeding any type of flower.

I’m glad that the poor thing was found by someone who is willing to take care of it, there is a lot that goes into proper care of these guys and they are wonderful pets.

Don’t worry about her not eating mustard greens or kale , I do not feed them at all . If you do feed them do it as a treat only not as a staple food . Dandelion greens , endive , escarole should be staple foods . Squash , mango , red/orange sweet bell peppers , finch seed and lentils can also be given .Be very careful feeding clover as well . There are many types of clover that are poisonous . If you can not properly identify a plant and are not 100% sure do not feed it . Never feed any thing that has had any pesticide or fertilizer on it in the past year , including Miracle Grow . Do not feed any flowers from on the side of the road or where exhaust fumes or road salt could be on them .Its best to stick with veggies from the grocery store just to be safe if you don’t know what your doing .Always feed unsalted fresh veggies when ever possible .I would get a fecal sample into a vet asap and if possible have her checked out .

A little scared, what would exhaust fumes do.... what would the signs be? I have a place in my neighborhood where I get my dandelions and pansies. I am SURE they don’t treat this area.
