 Why won’t his tail shed?

It’s been forever, and Stirwin’s tail still won’t shed all of the way! What’s up with him?

tails take a very long time to fully shed. mine will shed a few rows of tail spikes every third time his body sheds.

Yup, just hang in there and fight the temptation to "help." (NOT a good idea!!!) Rodan’s last tail shed took a couple of weeks. First, the half closest to his body, then the last 3 rows, then the middle. I would think that just because of the way the spikes are shaped it would be more difficult than the smooth surfaces.

Ditto... seems like with my Uros the tail is always the last to shed and it takes quite a bit longer than the rest of the body.

Egh, his tail has been this way for like.... half a year. o_o I don’t get it. At one point, individual ones were coming off, but only for a day or so. Since then, it’s just been.... like stuck.

One thing you can do is take a step back and give a hard look at his enclosure and diet. Make a careful assessment of any needs that might not be met in the current setup. Consider the whole temperature gradient, the size of the cage, the amount of running around space, climbing options, the types of light (and what spectra they are producing), the quantity of light, whether or not adequate UVB is reaching him, what nutrients is he getting and is there anything that might be missing. Is there any kind of humidity gradient? Maybe he needs one. Are there textured rocks to rub up against? Look at everything. See if there’s anything you can tweak that might help.

You might not find much. Or the things you find and fix might not seem to make a difference, but at least you’ll be eliminating possible reasons for the stuck shed.

I’m not so sure what would be wrong.... Do you think it’s bad for him? It won’t do anything bad, right? Or will it... stunt his growth?
