My uro hates me... I’ve had her for a few years and didn’t give her the attention she deserved but whenever I wanted to pet her or hold her for a few min she would let me until recently. I had to clean her cage two months ago so put her in a smaller one for a little while and she has yet to forgive me. Oh what a fight to put her in the big cage.. I now have time to give her attention but she jumps when I touch her and then sticks out her tongue. How can I get her to be the docile animal I hear they are suppose to be? Is all hope lost?

My uro hates me... Uromastyx are more of a "look at me" pet than a "hold me" pet. when you cleaned the cage did you switch to different bulbs? Maybe shes more active now in a hotter environment and can react to you like she wanted to before. She might have not had enough energy to act "wild" and was lethargic, making her apear "tame".
Peter
P.S. Can you post pics of your setup?

My uro hates me... I agree! There SHOULD be no such thing as a docile uromastyx!! And she is just checking to see if you are food with the tongue. Try holding out a piece of endive or whatever she really likes. See if she will eat from your hand! I have one that will and one that won’t! I can pet the one that will and scratch under his neck. The other runs like I am trying to eat him, and I have had him forever!! If I do pick him up for some reason, he tries to tail whip me, but then acts like the gentleman I keep telling him he is!! Then I can move him & pet him & clean his enclosure, etc. Then next time....he acts like I am going to try to eat him again!! LOL!! The healthier a uro is, the more they run, etc! Sounds like she is acting pretty normal.

My uro hates me... Haha Sahells Mom, I have the same problem with my male ornate and my female mali. Both will shoot under their retes stack when they see me while my male mali and female ornate just sit there and give me that head-tilting "What?" look. Nothing funnier than watching Uros.
Peter
P.S. The malis are housed separately than the ornates

And that is something you DON’T want to experience...a nice TAIL WHIP from a Uro!
They usually tend to act more "docile" when you have something in your hand that they love to eat.

My uro hates me... Sahel is just a PIA (pain in a$$) when it comes to handling. He is WC, but I have had him since he was about 7". His tail whip is not that lethal, really! He could hit harder, I’m sure. He more tries to whip and twist out of your grasp, so you can’t hold him well. He won’t eat from my hand, even pink rose pedals, his favorite! Very unlike my CB! But I love him just the same!!
