 Spell check computer poblems I need help !

For several days now every time I click on the spell check I get a pop up advertizement’s in the spell check window . Its really weird . Has anyone eles had this problem ? I think I picked up a virus or some thing . I am not very computer literit . I have Nortan antiviris, Adaware, and a Crap Cleaner .Any help would greatly appreciated. I have terrible spelling and need the spell check ,LOL. Not to mention I am getting pop up adds that are knocking me off the internet . Never had them before . Its making me nuts .

Skullkeeper, if you run adaware when it is done you will have a log file...if you open that up, and then copy and paste it into a post, i can tell you what virus you have picked up. You will also want to run your updates on norton...the definition file might be out of date...I have not had your issue with the spell checker(jst checked). The crap cleaner is not a terribly good program to use because it’s basically doing the job of one of your system tools you already have, but if oyu didn’t pay for it then i guess it’s a moot point. Let me know and we’ll see if you can’t get that comptuer back on track

My Norton is upto date and my crap clean was free .I run the Adaware every time I use my pc . I will check it and post what comes up later today . Thanks for your help . I called my son but hes hard to get hold of.I have also had a box come up that says Buffer overide what ever that is . Thanks again

I found a post I made a week or so ago where I interchanged the word ’lose’ for loose in multiple spots in the post. I just chalk it up to old age.

Yes thats the message I get . I have trouble getting on internet explorer and even gettin to my e mail . Pops ups come up every few seconds and stop mefrom doing anything some times knocking me off completly

This is a .DLL corruption error most likely due to a trojan of some kind. The fastest and most efficient way to take care of this problem is to run a system restore (Start>Control Panel>System>System restore) and set your computer back to a date before you remember having this problem.

The trojan that often times causes this error is one that changes the .DLL’s name very often and thus it’s not worth trying to trouble shoot specifically. If you do not have a system restore point then there is a patch that you can run here(http://www.prevx.com/ ) that might help but I would not sure it unless you have no other choice.

I have a feeling its a Trojan . I tried the system restore twice , each time it acts like its going to restore , shuts down then says restore incomplete . I might have to take it in some where . At least its a lap top .Now my quarantine on my Adawre is locked up. About every other letter I type doesn’t show up so this is taking me awhile to type out .I really appreciate every ones help , especially Pinecone .I will work on it over the weekend and if I don’t get it fixed I’ll take it in somewhere on Monday . Can anyone recommend a good place that won’t take anvantage of an old woman ?I think I need a drink , and I am not a drinker .This is so frustrating!!!

Try restoring it to a point much farther back and you might have some luck. I would not take it into geeksquad they charge exorbitant rates. Where do you live? I might be able to recommend somethign closer. What operating system do you have?

I live in Columbus Ohio . I have heard all bad stuff about the Geek Squad also .Our local news did a show on them . Seems to me they rated several places ,I think I have it written down some where . Hopefully I will get hold of my son over the weekend . For some stupid reason I was thinking it would be better this morning .You know every thing looks better in the morning ,LOL. Well at least I am not so stressed out now . I tried to reset it to a different date but still would not work . It wont let me change to another month either .At least I have everything backed up .Its weird I can not get internet explorer to load up but I can go to my favorites and click on repticzone and e bay .Google wont work and I can’t get to my e mail . Yes you all know what I will be doing over the weekend . Its raining here so I guess I don’t have anything eles to do

If you can, try downloading and running SpyBot Search and Destroy (SpyBot). I love this program. I run it at least two times per week. I finds all spy ware, ad ware and viruses.

That’s also a good idea, what missanne said, you can try running that. If your son doesn’t have any luck let me know. That’s interesting about the system restore, I wonder why it won’t let you go back any farther. Anyways, keep us posted.

What OS are you running? XP or VISTA? If your son doesn’t have any luck I can take a look at it remotely if you’re interested, there are programs on XP and VISTA for that kinda stuff.

Well, I think I have it fixed . I found a Trojan called Vundo .So far so good . I also changed my e mail to AOL and added a new password to my browser .Time will tell .Not completly fixed . I still got a pop up when I tried the spell check .

I was having alot of trouble logging in on yahoo . Then when I finally got loged on most of the time I could not delete e mails or send e mails . I think a lot of the problem was in my browser . I found out that I had 48 infected areas ,and 5 hyjacks . Someone hacked in to my pc and was rerouting me .I removed my Adaware then downloaded the updated version of the free Adaware and reran it .I also ran my Nortan 3 times doing full scans each time . Thats what removed the Trojan .Now my yahoo mail is working fine but since I e mailed everyone the new e mail address ,I will just keep both for awhile .I also added a new pop up blocker . I even turned off the router for awhile . I’ve worked on it most of today . I think I have finally got it fixed .

Rerouting you where? What makes you think you had a spider in your system? I really don’t think the issue was with the email account so if you were partial to the one before I would suggest you go back to it. If you really want the new one then I would say you should keep the old one forever and just setup a forward to your new account. Never know when someone will email you at the old one. If you turned off the router, how are you getting to the internet? Usually virus scans and quaranteens don’t get rid of viruses, I would be wary that you still have a lot left, so as a suggestion I would keep my emailing to a minimum in fear of spreading what you have until you run a lot more scans and stop experiencing the issue. Sounds silly, but it’s true, I work on viruses at work all the time that are smart enough to hide themselves when you start fiddling with them and pop up 72 hours after you’re done messing around. Another one would make 40,320(factorial of 8) copies of itself when you tried to delete it(my guess is it was a Chinese written code since 8 is a lucky number there). My point being that just cause it looks like it’s gone doesn’t mean it is and usually it’s a lot more hassle than you realize in order to get rid of it. Anyways, good luck.

I turned the router of for a few hours then turned it back on . I did not know if braking the connection would help or not . I am keeping both emails . Now that I got rid of the Trojan and quarantined the 5 hijacks every thing is running fine .Even my e mail now . Every time I tried to go to a site I was rerouted to other advertised sites .It took over my computer not letting me go where I wanted . I had a box come up saying I was being rerouted .I don’t know what a spider is .Any way seems to be okay now . I don’t have any important personal info on my PC , don’t pay bills or use charge cards or anything but it was a pain .
