 Got my first Uro!

So I picked up my first uro last week! Store owner convinced me into getting this over a veiled chameleon and I’m beyond excited he did! These guys have great personalities! Would you guys say hes a male saharan? If I’m correct I think females have a cream belly? Let me know what you guys think! Thanks

Looks like a male red-phase Saharan to me :) Can I ask what type of substrate that is? If it’s calcium sand, unfortunately you’ll need to get rid of it right away and switch to regular play sand or millet. Darned pet stores sell that calcium sand to anyone who will buy it, but IMO it should be totally illegal.

Ya I swtiched over to washed play sand from home hardware the day after I had him in that. Was kind of an impulse buy didn’t know much about them before hand. Only had him in that for about 1 hour took some pics and did my homework when I got home. What bulbs do you guys recommend for a basking spot? I just got the standard tight beam bulbs by I think zoo med maybe?

Hard to answer the bulb question, especially since we have no idea what he is in, what bulbs you have, etc. If he is in a 20L, you cant get your temps right (the pet stores always sell a 20L, probably because people would freek out if they said, "Gee you need a 75 gal MINIMUN for these guys!" IF you have an enclosure 48x24x24, you can use a mercury vapor bulb, which is really the best, I think. Mega Rays have to be 18" above the basking spot, so if you have shorter, you can’t use them. If you have smaller, you really can’t use them. I use both the EB and SB, depending. They cost more, but last longer and give usable UVB for a year, where others like a zoo med, start to loose potancy after about 3 months. You end up saving yourself money with them! I also use a halagen flood to bring my basking temps up to 135. Then a regular daylight house bulb on the cool side.
Could you post information, like tank size, temperatures, what you are measuring temps with, what kind and how many hides, etc. If you read "PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING", it asks about all the right questions to get help faster. I really couldn’t tell where his hides were. He needs several low (1 1/2") hides. They like to squeeze into spaces to feel secure. They aren’t really a touch me type lizard, more of an observe me type.
He is a real beauty! I have a red phase geyri also, Sahel. He was WC, and I’m afraid yours probably is also. Make sure you get a fecal check ASAP, as most of them have parisites. Not hard to get rid of, just a pain if you don’t!

Thank you very much for your post yours is really nice to! Ya I got him the 75gal 48X28X28 setting it up tomorrow I’ll post some pics soon. Ya I’ve been reading about the fecal sample. Going to find a vet tomorrow thanks! The bulb I have now is the uvb mecury bulb and its 100W but I don’t think its getting his basking temperature up high enough. I get around 115-120 I think and it creates a 95-100 in the hot zone. Thanks again!
