 How to coax them to come out of their hides more

I have had my two mali uros (housed separatedly) for about 4 months. They are both eating well and putting on some weight. Both come out of their hides during the day for a few hours to eat and bask but then they are back in their hides. Also, they are still a little scared of me when they see that Im moving around the room and they run back to their hides.

Is there a way to coax them to come out more?

If they begin to associate you with food they might not run when you come into the room.
You can try offering edible flowers and see if they will take them from your hands.
My uros beg like dogs for yellow flowers from rose, nasturtium, mustard, bokchoy, dandelion, hibiscus.

Where do you buy your flowers from? I’ve come across some online stores, but not many. As for dandelions, Im always afraid to pick them from outside since I don’t know how "clean" they are or if they have any pesticides...thanks

It takes months for them to feel secure enough when your around. My Littlefoot is now feeling comfortable while I’m around and even so he/she’ll run and hide if I make a sudden move or if he/she hears a loud noise. I’ve had Littlefoot for around 10 months now.

Growing like a weed there Javier...

You can even find edible flowers in those "fresh" spice racks in the produce area...even some branches of generic stores carry them.

They can get really ADDICTED to them though. Now I show my mali anything brightly coloured and it thinks it’s a big flower to come over and "taste"...

Thank you! I will try whole foods. I do remember seeing them there before. They don’t have any pesticides or any thing on them do they? I will wash a lot anyway, but I always worry about flowers...
Also, if they are addicting, do they stop eating their normal greens or do they just love the flowers when they are fed them?

I am growing pansies and nastursiums and pick dandelions from my yard. I do wash the dande’s very good before giving them. Also, I only give on the weekends after they have eaten some of their greens, kinda like dessert :)
