Just one more reason to NEVER use a 20 gallon tank for your uro’s not matter what size they are. Can you imagine what these bulbs which are readily recommended at the very same pet stores that tell you a 20 gallon is fine will do to your uro ? The distance between the uro and bulb would be no more then 4-6 inches . Imagine sitting in a tanning salon everyday of your life !!

Whoa!! Does that mean Mercury Vapors are still okay? You guys that use anything else needs to read this study!! Kind of scarey, Reddawg!! I appreciate the heads up, even though, hopefully, most of us are using mercury vapor!

Yea, I was on the megray website to purchase another MV for backup and to have in advance since mine is coming up on a year old.
I had heard about the compacts not being good but theres your proof !! I hope the companies that make them correct any issues they have .
Now, if someone would only do that for calcisand !

Yikes! I bought a zoo-med reptisun 10 compact when we first got our uro 2.5 years ago. It put out hardly any light, and the MegaRay seemed a lot better. When I used it, it was on top of the screen, mounted horizontal in a fixure that straddles the top of the cage, and easily 20" away from the uro, so I guess I was out of the danger zone
I had always wondered what the uv profile of all these bulbs looked like compared to natural sunlight.
Thanks for sending the link. I was aware of that website from reading reptileuv.com, but had never visited it!
