 Paralyzed back legs???????

I have a question (not pertaining to my Uro)
Yesterday we went to a reptile store of course where else would I be ha ha ha anyway I noticed they had 3 Mali’s one male was very fat almost looked deformed he was so fat, the other male had a stump tail but otherwise thick and healthy looking and the female looked normal just a little smaller but definitely thicker in body than most I have seen at this size. BTW they were all in a 20 gallon tank together :0( I asked the man at the front about them and he told me they were rescues. (A little odd considering they had a price tag of $80.00 each on the window.) :0( Anyway come to find out the large male and the small female’s back legs were paralyzed. He told us he was nursing them back to health. He told me they have lived like this for over a year how sad is that? :0( What causes this? And can it be fixed? Obviously I am not considering these guys but I do feel very bad for them and I would die if this ever happened to my baby so I really need to know what causes this for my own knowledge. Thanks :0)

So let me get this straight, he rescued them and is nursing them back to health by keeping three uros together in a 20 gallon ? They were probably better off where they were.
My guess would be MBD . Causes could be no UVB,poor diet, poor housing all of the above or other stuff.
Take proper care of your uro’s and they will never be in that condition.

 Paralyzed back legs???????

sounds like hes not interested in making them better per say just making money. If their back legs are paralyzed it can be from a number of things including a pinched nerve in their spins from being in tiny cages or being handled to roughly. I really wish these poor lizards the best it makes me sad to hear they are in that condition in the first place thats what happens when people get animals just for looks and know nothing of the animal wont do the research or just doesnt care. There are to few people in the world that care :(.

This is exactly what I thought :0( When I asked him about a bigger cage he said it wouldn’t matter because they can’t use their back legs. I did notice in sand they can drag themselves along but being as I am new to Uro’s I could not hold a strong argument he is lucky as he would have gotten an earful from me.

Although this pet store has decent prices I have decided to look elsewhere to spend my money. I can not tell you on a forum the name of the pet shop I don’t want to cause trouble but if you message me privately I will tell you. I can say the shop is in South Florida and that stump tail is damaged from fighting you can tell by the scars at the end of it. :0(

Ok so I am very glad that this is not common with Uro’s when these guys are well taken care of. :0)

Again thanks for the advice......
