Uro not eating much. Confused by greens instead of insects? I got my adult uro a few weeks ago and the online store i got it from said they fed it mostly crickets and sometimes a little greens, well i know that insects are a no-no and i feed the correct stuff like endive/escarole but i think it has my uro confused with no crickets being fed and he really isnt eating that much greens at all, if any. Will he just come around eventually and start eating strictly greens like he should?

Uro not eating much. Confused by greens instead of insects? He will eat greens. feeding more insects will just prolong recovery. do not give in to temptation. Although it may seem like the right thing to do it is not. If the uro is in optimal conditions he will eat. I would also run a fecal floatation and smear and see if he is clean once he starts eating and acclimates.

Uro not eating much. Confused by greens instead of insects? yes parasites. is the uro emmaciated. do the eyes look normal and shiny or sunken and dull. do the flanks look thin or thick? does the base of the tail look thick or sunken? can you see the pelvis or rib/backbone? if the uro was in poor conditions previously and exhibits signs of emmaciation he will need to see a vet to have subcutaneous fluids administered before he may eat the varied greens. if he is plump, active and well hydrated (do not confuse this with a healthy uro) he may come along without subq. different situations cause for different measures thats why its good to know your uro and study its behaviours then you have a better chance identifying problems quickly.

Uro not eating much. Confused by greens instead of insects? I agree with the above...it would be ideal to cut out all animal proteins immediately. As with any new animal, you should get a fecal exam done as well, especially if they are fresh imports or have been on a live animal diet. You should be providing tempting food items that will initiate a feeding response. Edible flowers, like dandelions, soaked or sprouted lentils, radicchio, yellow peppers or even small amounts of green or sweet peas dived up and mixed in to the base greens will often do the trick.

Uro not eating much. Confused by greens instead of insects? The color red tends to cause feeding behaviors in many animals so sweet red bell peppers work well or butternut squash tends to go over very well with mine

Uro not eating much. Confused by greens instead of insects? Uros can go a very long time without eating although in captivity it shouldn’t happen they can survive for over 4 weeks I believe it was.... just give him a little each day and let him eat as he wants evenrialy hunger will. I guess get the best of him and like said abouve feed brightly colored foods...... I seem to find that dandelions will seriously increase their appetite if they have been slow in their eating behaviors

Uro not eating much. Confused by greens instead of insects? thanks guys. I dont think he is a fresh import, the online store i bought it from said i shouldnt have to get him tested since they treat them for parasties but i still will. Now he is going through a full shed right now so would that have anything to do with his appetite?
