 Uromastyx sleeping habits

Soi am gonna throw this out there because I’ve gotten curious lately. Do you have your uromastyx’s lights set to a 9-6 kind of schedule or do you have it later and if so would this make much difference as far as health wise?

My one uro won’t come out until at least 2pm and his lights go on at 10-11am. Lights go off about midnight and he goes to sleep shortly before 10pm most nights. This follows my work schedule so it worked really well and its Linda nice yo have him up and running around his tank at 8pm. Any thoughts on if this could be bad for him at all?

I would thimk 10 or 11am is rather late.
I have my non heat lights come on at 6am. Half of my Heat lights on at 7am and and the other half at 9am. Kind of a gradual increase..... of light and heat.. like the dawn would bring.
my same process at night. Half the heat bulbs go out at 6pm. Other half at 7pm. Nom heat bulbs off at 8pm. Cool down process.
This works for me and my crew but to each there own.
I would imagine that normally uros would not sleep in that late or stay up that late at night. Probley going against there natural instincts.

They should have a 10hr day cycle in the winter months and a 12-14hr cycle in the summer months. Day/night cycles should replicate actual day/night cycles (assuming you don’t live in, for example, Alaska with extended day/night cycles). I currently have my timers set to turn lights on a 6:30 and off around 7:30, which happens to be the same approximate time the sun rises and sets here on the east coast. Even though the lights turn on at 6:30 I usually don’t see any activity at all until 8ish, which is only one of my philbyi. Usually by 10 the others begin to vacate the hides, but some days even later than that. I still think my ornates are in brumation as they tend to hide most of the day. As for the philbyi, they are more active, but still turn in pretty early most days--I’d say they are generally active 6-8 hrs out of the day and are hardly ever outside the hides when the lights turn off. That said, all four are healthy and have been putting on weight--I’m hoping to see more activity as spring progresses.

Overall..... people will have there particular preference with on and off times. Generally peoppe are in the 10-14 hrs a day mark. More important is proper heating temps, uvb, adaquate hides, heat gradiant and proper diet. Many aspects to consider and work towards.... but end results are healthy and happy uros.
