 Male or female uromastyx?

This is my Uromastyx Philbyi (Arabian blue). The breeder says he is two years old and a male, however some have identified him as a female.

What do you guys think? If you need specific photos, please let me know.

Out of curiosity, what color points towards male?

I’m not sure if this is representative of the species but I’ve seen 1-1.5 year old males with well established coloration. Jerry (UROKEEPER) has a few of them. I would think at supposedly almost two years of age the above individual would be showing at least hints of coloration...

Here is the vent photo guys.

Here is the link url to the image incase it is too small: Link

I did not write on his belly, that was written by the breeder. He arrived that way.

I just wanted to be completely sure as I was guaranteed a male and have been saving for a male for months. Let me know if you need another vent photo. Thank you!

in the third pic it looks like it has a little blue and green/yellow
and due to the new link to the vent it looks like one because of the size of the femoral pores and hemipenal bulges

Hmmm, I’m not seeing any blue coloration and only the slightest bit of yellow in one very small area. Not only that, but the OP, who has direct access to the animal, also notes no signs of coloration. That said, even if there is a tiny bit of coloration, couldn’t it still be female since females of this species can also have traces of blue and yellow tones?

As for the vent image (which, and no offense, isn’t a very good one) you can make out the femoral pores but it’s very difficult to see any definition of the hemipenal bulges, especially with the tail in that position. In regards to the pores, is this a determining factor in this species?

Not to argue, of course, I’m just interested.

 Male or female uromastyx?

Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to check my uro. The gender of this little uromastyx is very important to me for I paid with guarantee to expect a male.

Should I take another vent photo? Sorry it was a little difficult, he did not like being held that way for too long.

Thanks for the shots--they are much better than the first :) Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about this species to say, without a doubt, whether or not it’s male or female based on them. Honestly, Doug Dix has a lot of experience with these animals and considering he has had hands on experience with the specific individual in question I’d be inclined to trust his judgement, at least for now. If it ends up being a female and you were guaranteed a male, then simply contact him and see what he can do to possibly remedy the situation.

Cant tell. Either the Uro is too young still to make a definite determination or the hemipenal bulges are just to difficult to see if it would be a male or not for sure. The bulges are more pronounced in other species, this just may be a difficult one to determine

I have contacted Doug yesterday, however no response. I sent him the vent photographs too as he would probably be the best at identifying the gender.

I really hope he will respond soon. Meanwhile, I guess there are no significant indication that shows this uromastyx philbyi is male and is a probable female. :(

Based on pics and suggested age only..... i would say you have a female.
However, as someone else mentioned..... If doug says its a male then its most likely a male. But even someone with dougs experince can be wrong from time to time.
Non the less..... u have a beautiful uro. Enjoy him/her.

Cheers

Funny, I’ve seen him be referred to as (and refer to himself as) Jerry...unless there are two Urokeepers...
