 Uro specific food

I just invested in my firts uro. Love him. I read on many of sites about bird seeds and iguana food being ok to feed him. Im curios if anyone knows a type of bird seed is ok? And if the dry iguana food is ok. I want to use these foods as back ups and if im to have someone else feed him when im not home.

You can find a detailed list of proper food items, in addition to nearly every other tip on husbandry, on UroWiki (google it). In short you want to stick to primarily leafy greens with a good calcium to phosphorous ratio (2:1), such as escarole and curly endive. These food items should make up the majority of the uro’s daily diet, otherwise known as staples. In addition to these staple food items you can also offer dandelion greens, radicchio, collards, bok choy, winter squash (i.e. spaghetti, acorn, butternut), sprouted/soaked lentils, shredded yellow peppers, edible flowers (i.e. dandelion, violets, pansies) etc etc every couple of days to mix things up. You can also offer a small dish of seeds (white millet, clover) and ground legumes (lentils, split peas, navy beans etc) as a snack.

In addition to diet, uromastyx also require specific housing, lighting and heating needs. If you wish, you can provide such further detailed information which may help you shore up your husbandry and get you on the proper track. A good guideline to follow can be found in the ’Please read before posting’ thread--just copy and paste the questions into this thread and provide your response below each question.
