 Poisonous keelback

Did you all know Rhabdophis subminiatus is a poisonous snake? For those of you who are not familiar, it is a keelback snake that is a colubrid native to southeast asia.

picture can be found here:

And before I say too much, I want to know if anyone else has heard this.

Yep, poisonous and venomous. Some keelback’s have a very potent venom as well.

Rhabdophis is significatly strong venom, as in...it has caused human fatalities. (according to Fry anyway).

I just wanted to see what people had to say about it being poisonous. I just listened to a talk by Dr. John Murphy discussing the paper published on where they draw their toxins. Very cool.

ooops, looks like it is Rhabdophis tigrinis thats poison was studied. Not R. subminiatus. I would not be surprised if other populations of Rhabdophis were poisonous though.
