I like a potting soil sand mix. About 50/50 and make sure the potting soil is fertilizer free from wal-mart.

Anything but pine and cedar is fine; I just happen to like potting soil and play sand or any regular sand mix. It won’t injure the snake if he swallows it, unless of course he swallows a cup full. LOL
I’ve never had mite problems with it.

With the larger snakes there is a likely hood of the animal taking in bark strips with his meal while walking the kill down his throat. Sand has a tendency to fall out.

yeah thats why i want to get rid of the reptibark or aspen. the gabino is 3ft and eating med rats and he takes down some bedding and its hard for him to get it out. so just regular poting soil and play sand. 50/50 got it. i might throw in a lil of that compressed coconut bark as well. that should work very well actually to hold in that high humidity they like.. do you press it down and make it firm or do you just throw it in there???
