 Eastern Coral Snake

Anyone know of any breeders for eastern corals? Do any of you have experience with them? They are native to where I live, Alabama. Very pretty and small. I think they have a primitive venom delivery kind of like a gila monster where they have to chew to envenomate properly.

Nope they are elapids, they have an advanced delivery system and one bite will land you in the hospital, no chewing needed.

True.

They are difficult snakes to get to eat (almost exclusive snake-eaters). I have seen some that will eat lizards though.

There is almost never CB available, but a WC will run you about $50.
I agree with you that they are very attractive looking, but I personally don’t think that they are worth the hassel with feeding and dealing with a WC animal.

Hello all. I don’t do venomous, but have a great deal of respect for those of you who do. I keep and breed Colubrids.
I too have a love for the Corals. Thought I’d share these with you.
A friend and I were out field herping, hoping for some yellow rats or corns and came across this beauty. Looked as though it had just eaten. Marion County, Florida.
Wasn’t all that small either. About 30 inches and as big a around as a roll of quarters...

Thanks for looking.

Nice shots Kojak, I have kept corals from time to time and they are more than hard to keep healthy. If you have a large natural set-up with about 6 inches of real live oak leaf litter and access to ribbon, thin garter and green snakes then they are easy to keep. You will rarely see them and if you dig them up every day to look at it, it will die in a couple months. I kept mine for 2 years and then released them back to Ga, or something along those lines....
