 Cottonmouth Shedding

My Cottonmouth male is shedding for the first time since I have gotten him.
Do I need to do anything special, as in spray him down, etc.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Same thing you do for every other snake in the world.

With any snake, these are questions that should be answered before you buy a snake, much less a venomous.

You do not do the same thing that you do for any other snake in the world.
For your information, I presently have 37 snakes in my breeding collection. I have a pair of cottonmouths that I received a month ago which are my first venomous snakes.
With all my others snakes, balls, hog nose, tree boas, and false waters, if I have a shed problem (which is rare) I can take them out and soak them. I then let them crawl through a wet towel to remove the left over shed. In doing this, I do occasionally get nipped.
Obviously, I cannot do this with the copperheads, thus my question.

Keep it’s inclosure humid for a better shed and if the inclosure has a vented top I put tin foil over the top until shedding is complete. That keeps in the moisture...

I have to agree. I do not think that reptilelover was offering any constructive help at all.
I have noticed that many people very quickly bash or put down people who ask questions on almost all the forums, all the while having no idea of the background of the person involved.
I strongly believe that we all want what is best for our hobby in general and if people have purchased a reptile without doing their homework, getting either any information or conflicting info, at least they are here trying to find it.
I doubt that any of us have been perfect in the care or research of our reptiles, I have always been one of the first to offer any help I can and I thought others did too.
Thanks to all that did offer constructive, positive help.

you have to look at it from reptilovers point of view also. venomous keepers are very protective of their hobby and its often people who dont do simple research or ask simple questions BEFORE they obtain a hot that cause problems for keepers who have done things the right way. that being said, cottons are great snakes and arent too hard to keep aside from how messy they can be as adults. just be careful and never let your gaurd down. proper caging, escape proof room and proper tools are an absolute must. a very good book for a beginner to check out is Venomous Snakes in Captivity by B.W. Smith. keep in mind in the future that certain questions you ask may rub people the wrong way but most of the time even if you dont get the response you like, these are decent people that are just worried about the hobby. too many people treat hots like just any other snake and that tends to cause problems.

It’s the same for any other snake, really. Provide a humid hide with some moist moss (I think you know how to do that safely). Or you can try gently misting the tank to raise the humidity while the snake is in blue phase and after turning clear etc.

If there’s any issues with pieces of shed being stuck on after trying these things then a gentle soaking in warm water with a wash cloth in the tank/container might ne necessary. Snakes are cranky enough while shedding though, anything you can do to -not- handle yours would probably be the best.
