 Crotalus mitchellii???

hognose, night snake, lyre snake.

THERE IS NO BEGINNER HOT!!!

and don’t expect any "nicer" answers than mine, everyone will probably tell you the same thing, I could be wrong of course, but dont expect anyone to say."go get a mamba dude!!! their nice as puppy dogs any really easy to freehandle".

don’t get a hot unless you are ready for the commitment, costs, and dangers of owning an animal like this. Most, if not all can kill you too.

venomous snakes have a bad enough rep already, and by people getting these snakes on an impulse or because they want to be "cool", just adds to the bad PR of these snakes and their RESPONSIBLE owners.

so all I have to say to your question is "just look before you leap kid."

 Crotalus mitchellii???

I was thinking maybe Late July or August. They are feeding and mating now. Man to find a gravid female would be a treasure.

As of tomorrow my Daughter is stationed at 29 Palms. I will be visiting her there in 2 weeks. You said a while back you caught yours near Barstow, right. Was looking at Barstow on Google earth. Looks like prime sidewinder territory to me.
