Day trip to Jasper South Carolina Went down to Jasper Yesterday for a 6 hr herping day. PICS will be up today; Great day of rainy herping. Got started about 9 am with a 2 copperhead find in a trash dump and then to an old barn for another 2 Canebrake rattlers, one being about 5 ft and the other at 3 1/2 ft. Next a Scarlet king on a roadside lob lolly tree and then a spotted turtle behind a piggly wiggly food store in the woods. Also a beautiful red bellied water snake and a yellow bellied turtle. Unfortunately we ran into the DNR at an old barn and he made us let go all of the venomous but did let us keep the nonvens. Thank goodness that I knew the law and did not keep the Spotted turtle..Laws seemed to have changed in SC and you can’t catch venomous without a research permit, so he says!!!! No big deal though.
PICS to come today by RepTileLover....

Day trip to Jasper South Carolina Gorgious snakes Jeff. To bad the vens had to be left behind. That canebrake’s pattern is nice. What is their typical demeanor when found in the bush? The pacifics found around here are insane. We are heading southeast of here in the next few weeks to check out some red diamondbacks. My girlfriend wants one real bad. They are beautiful.

Day trip to Jasper South Carolina The larger canebrake was very calm, didn’t rattle much. The smaller one was a psycho, they can be on any end of the spectrum.
